tesselation districts is an extended player of four tracks that oscillate between comprehensible rhythmic patterns and their somewhat uncanny dissolution bridging aesthetics of steven porter’s as well as repetition/distract’s compositions for the label.

after various releases on weevil neighbourhood, two of the label’s key figures, anthone, who made a first appearance in 2012 with the “aloof” ep and “double dub / clear view” as well as “breath/lungs” in 2014 and katsunori sawa, who debuted with the “lr” ep in 2011 together with yuji kondo as steven porter and later released “the two legs” (2013) as well as “holy ground” (2014) as a solo artist, team up as bokeh for their first collaborative outing dubbed “peace obscured”. the release comes as a 12” ep combining both artists trademark musical vocab - industrial dub and noise influenced techno - resulting in a three tracker of relentlessly driving bottom end rave. black vinyl, limited edition, artwork by lee noble (no kings records/ bathetic).

following the peace obscured ep by bokeh, his joint venture with anthone, katsunori sawa sets yet another mark on the weevil neighbourhood with his first full-length solo artist album on the label. titled secret of silence the eight tracks-spanning work of kyoto based sawa drills through japan techno, industrial breaks and noise while flirting with breakcore and a more aggressive take on dub.
katsunori sawa has been with the label for pretty much four years now with solo projects as well as joint ventures (besides the aforementioned bokeh, he’s also part of steven porter with his brother in arms yuji kondo with whom he also runs their own 10 label). his musical career reaches back another few years when he was writing and producing under eoc (short for enormous o clock), including an album for ai records.

many dance music lovers who frequent creative music hubs such as cxema in kiev, rabiza and arma17 in moscow or mosaique in st. petersburg have already been introduced to obgons live sets, andrew lees drilled-up high speed dancefloor project. he is also known as one half of interchain a live band that leads an energetic artistic life spanning from ambient sessions in abandoned industrial spaces, to playing high octane techno at the biggest festivals in russia, such as the main stage of present perfect festival right after aux 88 and before philipp gorbachev. andrew lee is a rather calm guy who prefers action to talking about himself, but we do know that he quit his day job to focus on music.

ltd 20216 repress ! italian producers steve murphy and dj octopus are regular collaborators, and earlier this year released an excellent split ep on chiwax. here, they return to the much adored german imprint with a proper collaborative four-tracker. theres much to admire, from the rush-inducing bounce of opener track 1 and mr lee-ish cheekiness of track 2 (check the 89 style riff, snappy drum machine groove and cut-up vocal samples), to the impeccable depth and sun-drenched warmth of the decidedly wide-eyed track 3. arguably best of all, though, is track 4, which reimagines sir james 1990 strictly rhythm classic special as an immersive chicago deep house jam.

as we welcome another talented artist to our family we asked viken about the first part of a two part release and he told us it s really important to understand that this ep is a series of pictures telling a story. combining the names of all the tracks one gets this interesting and dreamy sentence, on a blue road a white shadow feels the winter. to translate these pictures into music, i needed a very particular sound. since i am a huge fan of jazz music i took one of my favorite records, used a lot of samples and reworked them in my own way. from the technical aspect, i decided to reconnect with my first love: analog machines. i love working with sound textures. i stayed away from my laptop and all my vst/plugins as i felt the need to compose these tracks in an unusual way: i wanted the sound to be really pure. that s the reason why this process was so essential for me. for me, this ep is the first one to sound like this. this is the first of two releases from a deeply talented soul. a patient collage of house, jazz, acid squiggles and deep emotion. played and loved all summer long by lee burridge at all day i dream, these tracks will stay with you through winter and into next summer.

a pivotal moment in 20th century politics, history and culture the november 22nd 1963 assassination of president john f. kennedy (in dallas, texas) produced a mountainous range of forgotten, discarded and ghostly vinyl artifacts. country songs, private-press lamentations, mournful poetry and violent political diatribes were rushed onto rough-hewn 45s and marginal lps that vied to be heard above the noise and confusion.

lars von licht’s -from arrows“ is exactly one of this sort: an almost 15min live jam, both simple and sophisticated. a track for special moments and for special people, perfect for reanimating supérieur. one of the frst persons whom i gave this tune last year s summer was lee burridge, who played it straight away at burning man. admittedly, this release took some time, but we wanted to fnd the right moment and the right remixer. we considered many options but came back to one of our own people in the end. dodi palese who released his connaisseur debut earlier this year, felt like the right person to challenge this track and we were right. he has transformed it into a tribalistic high energy bomb, with an unexpected, big synth theme, blowing you away. yes, we are more than happy about this release and it was well worth the wait.

death on the balcony s ‘tides of fortune has been the subject of relentless -track id- requests pleading us to reveal the name of the artist and track since be-at-tv streamed the bpm performance of lee burridge and matthew dekay back in 2015. joined on the ep by three other tracks there s a cohesive feel to the two friends vibe. mysterious melodies drift in and out of the hypnotic grooves on rivers of sound that could have soundtracked a star trek episode from the original series. 1700 miles is delicate and deep with a simple infectious vocal sample. don t be deceived though. when played on a club system the kick drum and bassline draw you in while the atmospheric elements send the listener to otherworldly places. we feel rather privileged as this track is mark’s first solo outing from dotb under his new moniker “caramelli” and dotbs first full length on all day i dream. mark’s back in the band for memories of the future which completes the release with its funky bass and trippy ambience. close your eyes and be transported.
